Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp (Rainforest Zone)<\/b><\/p>

After breakfast, drive from Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate<\/b><\/span> for registration, permit processing, and a short trek briefing. Begin the hike through dense rainforest, where the air is humid and the trail can be muddy, especially after rain.<\/p>

You will climb steadily under tall trees and thick vegetation, with chances to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and colorful forest birds. After several hours on the trail, you arrive at Machame Camp<\/b><\/span> where the team sets up camp, you settle in, and enjoy a warm meal before resting for the night.<\/p>

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp (Moorland Zone)<\/b><\/p>

After breakfast, leave the forest behind and climb into a more open landscape. The trail becomes steeper as you gain altitude, and the scenery changes to moorland with shrubs, giant heathers, and wide mountain views.<\/p>

As you approach the Shira Plateau, the air becomes cooler and the views more dramatic, often revealing Kibo peak on a clear day. Arrive at Shira Camp<\/b><\/span> in the afternoon, where you have time to rest, acclimatize, and enjoy sunset views across the plateau.<\/p>

Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower then Barranco Camp (Acclimatization Day)<\/b><\/p>

This is an important acclimatization day using the \u201cclimb high, sleep low\u201d method. After breakfast, trek toward Lava Tower<\/b><\/span> (a rocky landmark at higher altitude). The landscape becomes more rugged and sparse, and you may feel the altitude more today, so the pace is slow and steady.<\/p>

After reaching the Lava Tower area, you will take a break for rest and lunch, then begin descending toward Barranco Camp<\/b><\/span>. As you descend, many climbers start to feel better because the sleeping altitude is lower. Barranco Camp sits in a scenic valley with great views of the Barranco Wall<\/b><\/span> and the mountain above.<\/p>

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (Barranco Wall)<\/b><\/p>

After breakfast, begin the day with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall<\/b><\/span>. This section is a scramble in parts, but it is safe and guided, and it\u2019s one of the most fun and memorable moments of the Machame Route. At the top, you\u2019ll enjoy sweeping views of the valleys below and the mountain landscapes ahead.<\/p>

After the wall, the trail continues with a series of ups and downs across ridges and valleys. You will trek at a comfortable pace, take breaks for photos, and arrive at Karanga Camp<\/b><\/span> in the afternoon. This day is shorter to support acclimatization and recovery.<\/p>

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (Alpine Desert Zone)<\/b><\/p>

After breakfast, continue the climb toward Barafu Camp<\/b><\/span>, which is the final base camp before the summit attempt. The terrain becomes more rocky and dry, with fewer plants, and the air becomes thinner as you gain altitude.<\/p>

Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon, rest, hydrate, and eat an early dinner. Your guide will provide a detailed summit briefing, including pacing, safety, and what to expect during the night climb. You\u2019ll try to sleep early because the summit push begins around midnight.<\/p>

Day 6: Summit Day (Barafu to Uhuru Peak) then Descend to Mweka Camp<\/b><\/p>

Around midnight, wake up for tea and snacks, then begin the summit attempt. The climb is slow and steady, following a zigzag trail up steep volcanic scree. You\u2019ll take short breaks to manage altitude and keep moving in a controlled rhythm.<\/p>

You will reach Stella Point<\/b><\/span> on the crater rim around sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak<\/b><\/span>, the highest point in Africa. After photos and celebrating, you begin the descent back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp<\/b><\/span> in the forest zone. This is the longest day of the trek and requires determination, but it is also the most rewarding.<\/p>

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (Finish)<\/b><\/p>

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest toward Mweka Gate<\/b><\/span>. The trail can be slippery, so trekking poles are helpful. As you approach the gate, the air becomes warmer and richer with vegetation.<\/p>
