Safari Overview

This 6-day midrange Tanzania safari offers a more relaxed exploration of the Northern Circuit, giving you extra time to enjoy the wildlife and landscapes of Tanzania’s most famous parks. The journey begins in Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, before continuing to the vast plains of Serengeti National Park.

You will spend two full days exploring Serengeti’s incredible wildlife ecosystem, home to lions, cheetahs, leopards, and large herds of grazing animals. The safari continues to the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife destinations, and concludes with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its scenic beauty and rich birdlife.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Your safari begins with a morning pickup from Arusha followed by a drive to Tarangire National Park. Upon arrival, you will start a game drive through the park’s diverse landscapes of savannah, river valleys, and giant baobab trees.

Tarangire is famous for its large elephant population and abundant wildlife. During the game drive you may see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, lions, and various species of antelope. The Tarangire River attracts many animals throughout the year.

In the late afternoon, you will drive to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will depart for Serengeti National Park. The drive passes through the scenic Ngorongoro highlands and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes.

Once inside Serengeti, you will begin a game drive as you head toward your lodge or tented camp. Serengeti is one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world and offers excellent opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and large herds of wildebeest.

Dinner and overnight will be at your accommodation in Serengeti.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

Today you will spend a full day exploring Serengeti National Park. After breakfast, you will set out for a game drive across the endless plains in search of wildlife.

The Serengeti ecosystem supports one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. You may encounter lions resting on kopjes, cheetahs hunting across the plains, and herds of wildebeest and zebras grazing together.

In the evening, return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Another Full Day in Serengeti

After breakfast, you will enjoy another full day of game drives in Serengeti. Having two full days in the park allows you to explore different areas and follow wildlife movements more closely.

Your guide will help track animals and take you to locations where wildlife activity is most promising. Depending on the season, you may also witness parts of the Great Migration as herds of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains.

Dinner and overnight at your lodge or tented camp.

Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before starting the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Along the way you may encounter more wildlife and enjoy the changing scenery as you leave the Serengeti plains behind and head toward the highlands. You will arrive in the Ngorongoro area in the afternoon and spend the evening relaxing at your lodge.

Dinner and overnight near the crater rim or in Karatu.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara – Arusha

After an early breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater floor hosts an incredible concentration of wildlife including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and many bird species. With luck, you may also spot the rare black rhino.

After the crater game drive and picnic lunch, you will continue to Lake Manyara National Park for a short afternoon game drive. The park is known for its lush forests, large troops of baboons, and beautiful lake scenery.

Later in the afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha where your safari ends.
